Cookies!
December 16, 2009 · 27 Comments
You may be asking yourself, why is there a shitload of Milano’s at iMD. Well, Frankly, we don’t know. We got here in the morning and they were sitting on the counter. No one has keys to the store except a couple people so it’s quite the mystery, but who really cares. One thing I do know and many of you that know me personally, I FUCKIN LOVE COOKIES! I’ve tried numerous diets and have been really good about watching what I eat over the years but one thing I have never given up since I was a kid are COOKIES. I will never turn down a cookie that’s offered to me. I will never let a cookie sit there alone. 1 cookie is never enough. Shitty day? Cookies will make it better. I guarantee it!
So in light of this event, we will be putting on a contest. Guess how many packages of Milanos there are sitting on our counter and win a free pack of Milano’s. We will send you a pack of Milano’s and a iMD sticker pack. Get to it.

Why ride fixed?
December 16, 2009 · 4 Comments
..because it’s a “constant orgasm”.
I believe the core of us that do ride fixed daily can share the same sentiments as Isaac Grigsby, the fixed gear enthusiast in this little edit by Justin Teichen. Riding fixed is definitely a lifestyle for many people. I know my life has changed for the better since I started riding fixed. I’ve had some of the best times of my life and have met some amazing people through this sport.
What about you? What are your thoughts on what Isaac has to say about riding fixed?

winter riding accessories.
December 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment
It has been pretty wet and cold in San Jose as of late. Here is a list of biking accessories that can help keep you stay warm and dry during the winter season.
Front and Rear Fenders- Essential for preventing the wet pavement from splashing all over your clothes.
Riding Gloves- Not just any gloves, but riding gloves. They keep your hands warm, but are also breathable so moisture/sweat doesn’t get trapped inside.
Waterproof Bags- Messenger bags, backpacks, pouches, and hip packs. The only way to keep the water out of your precious belongings is to have bag that is waterproof.
Scarf/Neck gator- Exposing your face and neck to the harsh winter winds can make riding a chore, rather than a fun activity.
Waterproof shell jacket w/ ventilation: Combine a shell jacket and a couple of layers (depending on how cold it is), and you have yourself a formidable pair to combat any type of inclement weather.
Headgear- I think the saying goes that you lose 90% of your body heat through your noggin. Add a cycling cap or beanie underneath your helmet for added warmth.
Arm/leg warmers- Not only do these keep you warm, but they also wick away sweat for a much more comfortable ride.
Base layers- Wearing cotton t-shirts underneath all of your layers can add to the sauna effect, so investing in a nice polyester type base layer will keep you warm and dry.
You can pick most of these items up at iMinusD.

London to Paris and The Revival recap.
December 14, 2009 · 2 Comments

As many of you know, we hosted a back-to-back movie premiere of fixed-gear films “London to Paris” and “The Revival.” In typical fashion, we extended an invitation to all of our friends, near and far. I was surprised to see so many people in attendance, some traveling from as far north as Vallejo, California. In total, we had close to 100 in the shop and even more outside trying to get in. Snacks and refreshments were served to keep our guests pleased throughout the hour and a half run time. Keep reading →

supermarket street sweep.
December 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Wow, what a great turnout. A few of us SJ heads made the trip to San Francisco for the 4th annual Supermarket Street Sweep. The SMSW is an alleycat that benefits the SF Food Bank. Racers follow a manifest which features supermarkets around the city, and then purchase items that are listed on the manifest. Thousands of pounds of canned goods, rice, pasta, beans and peanut butter are donated each year.

Alvin, Tim, Alex, Tanner, and myself rode together for most of the race. We accounted for only a fraction of the 198 total racers. Our team chose to do the cargo option, which means hauling as much food as possible, as opposed to the speed option where you finish in as little time as possible.

Alvin managed to carry 99 pounds of food on his back. Tim carried around 50 some odd pounds. My bag came in at 30 something pounds. Let’s not even mention “Manystyles.”
After completing the 5 checkpoints and weigh in at the SF Food Bank, everyone headed over to Sports Basement for the after race celebration.

The swag was all laid out over several different tables. There were so many sponsors it was unbelievable. iMinusD donated several items as well.
It was great to see everyone out supporting a great cause. Come out next year!

Leader 722TS
December 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Leader has definitely stepped up their game with their new 722TS steel frame. With an MSRP of $270, this frame beats a lot of the other steel track framesets on the market. The quality of the frameset is definitely on par with frames two to three times its price. The bike feels solid when riding. This thing moves! The paint on these new steel frames are top notch for a frame under $300. I know Leader is not known to be the greatest of quality but they are definitely stepping it up with this new 722TS.
We set up this particular build to be ridden at Hellyer Velodrome. We started off with a Tange steel fork and a Chris King headset to finish off the frameset. We went with the Nitto CT-80 fillet stem and some Nitto B125’s for drops. The Shimano FC-7400 NJS track crankset was choice for this build to go along with the mismatched Japan, Italy, USA love triangle of a bike this was to become.
Campagnolo Record track hubs and Fiamme Tubular rims would finish the bike off. This has got to be one of the most confused builds. There are so many differing brands on this bike it’s awesome. Brand and parts on this bike are Leader, Campagnolo, Fiamme, Nitto, Shimano and Globe. Regardless, I think it came out pretty clean.
